Michael Newton, founder of "Newton Heritage Consulting b.v." a consultancy firm focused on the broad field of (world) heritage conservation and heritage education, has worked as a heritage consultant in Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire, St. Maarten, Suriname, Belize and the Bahamas.

Preserving the old city presents increasing challenges. The constitutional changes of 2010, resulting in among other things, the closing of the governments Monuments Bureau conduced to a delay in the recovery of the city. The challenge is now upon NGO’s such as the Curaçao Heritage Foundation and the Curaçao Monument Fund Foundation to continue.
